Salesman Pete
2010
Position : Author & Background artist
Authors : Marc Bouyer, Max Loubaresse, Anthony Vivien
Pitch :
Pete is a nice and clumsy salesman. But he's also a deadly super secret agent with a microprocessor implanted into his brain by some mad scientists from the government ! He has to secretly stop a bunch of bad guys who stole a magic stone that can change anything into seafood!
Max, Marc and me were driven to create this film entirely on our own, working for a year in an apartment, with the support of our friends and families. Marc did the character design and also animation alongside Max, while I focused on the environments.
Cyril Marchesseau joined us for the music, we first discovered his work at the time through the short A Kiss from Tokyo by Kevin Dart and Stéphane Coedel.
We went for a 2D/3D hybrid look, which was still rarely used back then. Student films from Gobelins like Burning Safari, Le Building, and California Love were key inspirations for us. Choosing to use 3Ds Max with Scanline turned out to be a huge advantage thanks to its fast rendering, which saved us from long render times.
We’re proud of what we achieved with Salesman Pete, even if the story isn’t particularly well put together!
